No Seat for the Enemy

The inspiration for painting, "No Seat for the Enemy", came from reading Louie Giglio's book, Goliath Must Fall.  He describes the times when we let the enemy, Satan, take a part in our conversations in our head. That practice can certainly take us to places we would rather not go.  So, he cautions to never give a seat to the enemy.
I am reminded of this every time I look at the painting and I hope that when viewers see this painting and it's title,  they will ask about the story behind it.  It gives a voice to my art work that I am honored to share.
This painting will also go the the Lake Country Fine Art Show in Eatonton, Georgia.  The Artisans Village Gallery is hosting the show November 3 - 17. Hope you will come by to see it.

Amy's House

This was painted in celebration of the coming of fall.  We still have no color here and the temperatures are just beginning to cool down a little, but there is promise ahead.  I was chatting with a sweet friend on the phone during most of the time I was working on this one - hence the name of the painting. Quick palette knife work sometimes comes out the best!

This painting goes to the Lake Country Fine Art Show this week.  It is sponsored by The Artisans Village Art Gallery and Guild in Eatonton, Georgia.  It will be on exhibit from November 3 - 17.  I hope you can come by to see the show.

Green Apples Day 11 and 12

I am adding the last two to the collection of Green Apples.  I have enjoyed doing a series of paintings of a similar subject. Planning color combinations and compositions has been a great learning curve.  Look for some other paintings that I will post soon.   I hope you enjoy!

Green Apples Day 10

A cream and sugar set, dried hydrangeas, and a green apple.  It doesn't get much better than this.  The cream and sugar set is from a sweet friend's family collection.  She did not need it any more, but was delighted to be gifted with this painting as a remembrance.  What a blessing it is to gift my artwork!  I have worked on setting up my own still life arrangements and I have found it fun to set them on a piece of glass that has been painted gray on the backside.  It makes for some wonderful reflections.

Green Apples Day 8

This was the first in the apple series where I used my palette paper to create a collage painting.  I really like this one because of the bright colors.  My signature is always a bit of a struggle for me and I found that especially true on this collage.  I usually scratch my name into the oil paint, but for these, I may have to write my name on some pieces of paper and then add them to the collage as I finish.  Any suggestions?

Green Apples Day 7

I love copper!  I have a collection of pieces I display each fall and it always brings warmth to the room as the days grow cooler.  Well, in Georgia, there is always the hope of it beginning to cool off.  Painting copper is always a challenge, but Transparent Red Oxide is always a help.

Green Apples Day 6

I believe this is one of my favorites! It looks different from my other paintings because it is a collage rather than a palette knife painting.  But I had to paint to get here. I often mix my oil paints on gray palette paper. It works well and clean up is easy - you just throw it away.  But then I realized that the colors were so beautiful on the gray paper that I had to keep it.  Yes, the interminable pack rat. I knew I would use it one day. Each piece in this picture was cut out of the palette paper and Modge Podge was used to glue and seal them down. I love the effect and unique look for a bowl of apples.  Look for more of these to come!

Green Apples Day 5

Things that are round are a challenge to paint.  Pitchers included.  This one may need a little more tweaking, but this black pitcher is a favorite of mine.

Green Apples Day 4

I am regularly seiting up my own still life arrangements to paint including lighting that gives a bright reflection and a dark shadow.  I find it challenging, but also a rewarding learning curve.  This is a favorite white bowl of my that moves from place to place around my kitchen and dining room.  You will often find green apples in it - sometimes real, sometimes fake.  My granddaughter took a bite of one and had a mouthful of styrofoam!  "But they looked real"!

Green Apples Day 3

I obviously love the color of green apples!  My favorite paint colors to achieve this is to use Sevres Blue and Indian Yellow.  It makes the brightest green ever!  It also made it fun to paint the blue in this  bowl.  This would be another great one for the kitchen.  Anyone ready for apple pie?

Green Apples Day 2

Isn't it fun to have a little art to spice up your seasonal decorations?  More and more, I have seen art in kitchen spaces or layered with other decor.  I'll title this Green Apple with Pumpkin Colors.  Where would you place this little 6"x 6" square?

12 Days of Green Apples

A Touch of Black

Fast forwarding from a year ago when I made my last post!  Time flies when you are having fun!

I recently began a self-challenge to paint 12 green apple paintings.  The purpose was to give them away at our neighborhood Bunco event that I was hosting in September.  It was a great challenge and got me the closest ever to becoming a daily painter. I hope you will follow and enjoy the series. They are all 6"x 6" canvas, painted in oils with a palette knife.  Now if I can just post them in 12 days!

My sweet friend explained when she got this painting she wanted just a touch of black in her kitchen.
Voila!
